Both programs prepare students for entry-level positions in the optical manufacturing industry through instruction in optical engineering drawings and prints, lean manufacturing methods, statistical process control, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing for optics. In the AAS and certificate programs for FRCC optics, students receive an overview of the fundamentals of optical systems, equipment, and electronic instruments. Both programs were developed with support from the Colorado Photonics Industry Association (CPIA), which helps FRCC students network with relevant employers, including Excelitas Technologies, Perkins Precision Developments, Meadowlark Optics, and Thorlabs. The Front Range Community College (FRCC) offers a two-year Applied Science (AAS) program in optical technology, as well as a one-year certificate program. As a service to students, recent graduates, and potential employers, Photonics Spectra maintains a profile for one of 35 LASER-TEC colleges each month. It was created to help achieve the goals of education and finding national talent in the fields of optics and photonics. LASER-TEC is the laser and fiber optic education center, founded in 2013 by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and headquartered at Indian River State College in Florida. ![]()
